“I feel very safe here, probably safer here than I ever did.”
Making the decision to move into a retirement village was easy for Summerset Mount Denby resident, Sharon Powell, once she had her ‘a-ha!’ moment.
“I had a very big property for 32 years and when my husband was alive, we always used to maintain it together, he'd be mowing the lawns and I’d be doing the water blasting. But after he passed, it got to the stage where it was just getting far too much for me.” recalls Sharon.
“I think it was my son who suggested a retirement village, and I thought, retirement village, am I too young to be doing that?” giggled Sharon. “And then I thought, no that sounds lovely. I don't want to have to shift again when I think I’m ready, so that was really the ‘a-ha’ moment.”
After touring a few other villages with family, it was a two-bedroom home at Summerset that left a lasting impression.
“I thought, I can see myself living here and put a deposit on the home that I'm in now, just two days after viewing it at an open day. And I've never, ever regretted my decision.”
Moving into a retirement village means joining a vibrant and active community, with the peace of mind that you’re living in a safe and secure environment.
“I have never had any concerns about safety in the village at all. Some nights I go to my daughter’s house for dinner, and I've never felt unsafe coming home by myself in the car. We used to have fobs to open the village gate, but now we've got number plate recognition. So, you just drive up and the gates only open for recognised plates.”
“I’m going over to see my other daughter in Perth for three weeks, and I'm not worried about leaving the place. You can just lock your door and go. I feel very safe here, probably safer here than I ever did.”
I'm amazed living here. I had a few friends who said, ‘Oh no, you're not going to a retirement village, you’re too young’ and I said, well, I thought that too. But I told them I'm going to go, and I've never regretted coming. I've loved every minute of it.”
