Feeling safe and secure

When Beverley and Arthur Bradly started searching for their new home, they wanted to find a place that just felt right. As they looked into options, there was just something about the bright and spacious apartment at Summerset Heritage Park in Ellerslie, Auckland, that kept calling them back.

“We looked everywhere, even outside of Auckland,” says Beverley. “When we came here we thought, this is the one for us.”

“I immediately loved the great views and the deck. Moving is always a big step, but it didn’t take us long to settle in.” Having all the perks of an apartment, plus the space to entertain friends and display beloved furniture, was a major bonus for Beverley.

“I have a piano, and there’s no way I was going anywhere without my piano! So I have that here, and we were able to bring a lot of our furniture. We have three good-sized bedrooms, and one we use as a TV room and office. You never feel closed in. When friends come over, they can’t believe the size of it.”

Arthur says the clever design of the village also ticked the boxes. “The apartments look outwards to a central lake, so you’re not looking straight into another house. It gives privacy for everyone.”

For the Bradlys, who moved to their new home in November last year, the safety, security, on-site amenities and welcoming feel of the village has brought ease of living and peace of mind.

“Everyone here is friendly, and the staff are great,” says Arthur. “There are so many little things that make life easier. You can order meals from the café and have them delivered, and as the gym is closed due to Covid, they relocated the bikes so we can still use them.”

With Covid-19 now a part of life for all of us, the couple say they feel well looked after.

“We had a surprise delivery of wine and nibbles, another time there was a knock on the door and a parcel was waiting for us,” says Beverley. “Recently there was a sausage sizzle fundraiser outside on the village green. The little extras really make a difference.”

“The village team are so accommodating, especially during Covid times. They really go out of their way to make sure nobody feels alone.”
