Hear from our residents

Residents share their stories, from interesting careers and passions that keep them busy, making the most of their retirement, and loving the Summerset life.

Independent living

From villas to apartments and cottages, our villages offer a range of homes designed to suit the independent and active lifestyle of residents.

Meet John and Lynley

John and Lynley loved life in the coastal town of Whangamatā, close to family. But when loved ones moved away and home upkeep became a burden, the couple knew they were ready for a change and found the perfect home at Summerset by the Dunes.

Meet Ross and Angela

After deciding it was time to downsize and simplify their life, Ross and Angela explored countless living options. Yet none seemed to offer the future-proofed lifestyle they envisioned - until they discovered Summerset Waikanae.

Meet Julie

A former physiotherapist, Julie chose an apartment at Summerset Boulcott for its comfort, design, and location. Her professional experience made her aware of the challenges aging can bring, so she wanted a home that supported independence and wellbeing.

Meet Gavin

Gavin traded fear for freedom. Summerset Waikanae gave him safety, stability, and a vibrant community. Now, he locks and leaves without worry, living life on his terms - confident, connected, and ready for whatever comes next.

Assisted living

Available in most villages, serviced apartments give residents the space and freedom to host friends and family and fully embrace village life, whilst giving them the confidence of care and support close by.

Meet Jeanette

Seeking friendship and community, Jeanette Gray embraced village life at Summerset by the Dunes. She first moved into a villa, then chose a serviced apartment for extra support. Now, she enjoys comfort, connection, and peace of mind every day.

Meet Bonnie

When home upkeep and health concerns grew, Bonnie found comfort in a serviced apartment at Summerset by the Dunes. A supportive village where peace of mind, safety, and a sense of belonging bring comfort to her and her loved ones.

Meet Jacqui

When Bonnie told Jacqui she was ready to move into a retirement village, Jacqui was surprised. That all changed when Jacqui visited Summerset and discovered it’s nothing like the stereotype.

Meet Ross

Ross was living in an apartment at Summerset at Heritage Park when changes in his health required support to be close at hand. With the day-to-day things taken care of and support close by, Ross spends his days doing the things he loves.

Continuum of care

Our villages are designed so that as your needs change, we have different levels of support and care* within the village. We call this our continuum of care. Some villages offer specialist dementia care in our memory care centres and care centres vary across villages, offering a choice of care suites and apartments. *Care is subject to availability and eligibility criteria.
