Summerset finalists in the Auckland Property People Awards

Building on a strong track record, Summerset Construction are finalists in two categories in the Auckland Property People Awards from Property Council New Zealand!

Rising star Lian Versteeg, one of our services managers, is in the running for Young Achiever of the Year. And in recognition of their collective excellence, our Ellerslie Delivery Team, led by project manager Greg Deuchar, is up for Best Team.

Building a strong team

Last December, the Ellerslie team completed the final stage of construction at Summerset Heritage Park village.

The build included a 74-dwelling apartment block, cinema, new roading, and a bowling green in the middle of a man-made lake.

“Our goal was to bring the best of life to our residents by delivering a quality result, on time and with minimal disruption to the village, while coming in under budget,” says Greg. “The work was complicated by COVID-19, but we had robust protocols in place and everyone did their bit to keep us and the residents safe, and get the job done.”

On being made finalists, Greg says, “It’s a nice validation of how well the team gelled to complete a complex job. When you look at the big, high-value projects other finalists worked on – it’s great to be recognised at that level.”

The delivery team are: Kevin Brady, Ondrea Bowden, Greg Deuchar, Wayne Duffy, Dawn Gillard, Glynn Jones, Clynton Lereculey, Graeme Manson, Melissa Pass, Eduardo Rodrigues, Lian Versteeg, Marshall Wells.

A fast-growing, green career

Lian is seeing double these awards, recognised as part of the Ellerslie team and for his achievements as a services manager.

Since joining Summerset in 2018, at age 24, Lian has brought a drive for quality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness across all our commercial builds.

“I love seeing our construction projects get handed over and the enjoyment it brings to residents and village staff,” Lian says. “Each project is years in the making and it’s highly rewarding to see the hard work and dedication pay off.”

Keen on building greener, Lian’s championed a new system to track and improve Summerset’s energy usage, and is on his way to being an accredited green star practitioner.

Lian says it’s a thrill to be a finalist for the young achiever award.

“I enjoy my work, and I enjoy finding opportunities to grow my skills and to help grow Summerset, so it’s an honour to be acknowledged like this,” he says. “I’m also stoked to appear alongside my Ellerslie delivery teammates. My job involves a lot of collaboration – so it’s awesome to have that collective recognition.”

Congratulations to all our finalists! Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Friday 25 February 2022.
