Established in 1994, Summerset provides village lifestyle options and care facilities to more than 1450 people throughout the North Island, and has expansion goals nationwide.
Summerset has over 1200 units, including villas and apartments, with some apartments receiving services. It also has more than 300 rest home and hospital beds.
Summerset is the third largest retirement village operator in New Zealand.
Summerset's philosophy is that older New Zealanders should have access to a quality lifestyle in a safe, secure and enjoyable environment at an affordable cost.
Summerset retirement villages are located at Aotea (north of Wellington), Hastings, Havelock North, Levin, Manukau, Napier, Palmerston North, Paraparaumu, Taupo, Trentham, Wanganui, Warkworth and Katikati (early stages).
Summerset employs more than 350 staff throughout the country.
Summerset's chief executive officer, Norah Barlow, is the current President of the Retirement Villages Association, www.retirementvillages.org.nz.
Summerset is privately owned.
In New Zealand around 25,000 people currently live in just over 300 retirement villages.
Statistics New Zealand estimates that the number of people aged over 65 will grow by approximately 100,000 to reach 566,000 by 2011. By 2051 there will be 1.2 million people aged over 65 accounting for approximately one in four New Zealanders. |
